The 5 Best AI Visibility Tracking Tools

The best AI visibility tracking tools right now are Semrush’s AI Toolkit for stores already paying for Semrush, Ahrefs Brand Radar for market-wide coverage, and Profound for bigger budgets, with Peec AI and Otterly as lighter options. None are cheap, and half of what they sell you can check by hand.

I’ve tested these on client brands, so here is what each is actually worth.

Key Points

  • Every serious tool works the same way: it runs a set of prompts daily and logs who gets mentioned and cited.
  • Entry pricing runs from $29 a month (Otterly) to $199 and up (Ahrefs Brand Radar add-on).
  • Ahrefs and Semrush bolt AI tracking onto data you may already pay for. Profound, Peec, and Otterly are standalone.
  • Pay for trend tracking across many prompts. Never pay for what ten manual searches a month can tell you.

Here is the short version before the detail:

1. Semrush AI Toolkit: The Easy Add-On If You Already Pay

The Semrush AI Toolkit is the easy pick if your store already runs on Semrush. It scores your AI visibility from 0 to 100, counts your ChatGPT mentions, lists which of your pages get cited, reads sentiment, and lines you up against four competitors, all inside the dashboard you already use.

The catch is depth. Coverage centers on ChatGPT and Google’s AI surfaces, and the prompt set is built from search-style queries. That fits how shoppers actually ask, but it can miss the longer conversational prompts where brands quietly win or lose.

Treat its numbers as a trend line, not a census. Every tool in this post samples a sliver of real AI conversations, the same way rank trackers sample searches. I wrote about that sampling problem in are keyword tools accurate, and the logic transfers straight to AI trackers.

2. Ahrefs Brand Radar: The Widest Market View

Ahrefs Brand Radar gives you the widest view of the AI market I’ve found. It runs on more than 250 million prompts built from real People Also Ask questions, and it covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot.

Because the prompt base is huge, it answers market questions the others cannot. Who owns your category across every engine. Which competitor is climbing. Where you are invisible. That is strategy data, not just brand-watch data.

But the price stings. A single platform index runs $199 a month, the all-platform bundle is $699, and both sit on top of a paid Ahrefs plan. Buy Brand Radar when you need to see a market, not just your own name. For one store watching itself, it is overkill.

3. Profound: The Heavyweight for Competitive Niches

Profound is the heavyweight, built for brands treating AI search as a channel with budget behind it. The Starter plan runs $99 a month billed yearly for ChatGPT tracking on 50 prompts, and Growth at $399 adds Perplexity and AI Overviews with 100 prompts. Enterprise reaches nine engines.

What justifies the price is workflow, not just charts. Daily runs, sentiment, competitive share of voice, exports, and agent features that turn gaps into content tasks. Agencies and funded DTC brands in fought-over niches get real value here.

Even so, most Shopify stores under a few million in revenue do not need it yet. Make sure you appear in AI answers at all before paying to graph how often. If you are still at zero, spend the money on the fixes in my steps to rank in ChatGPT first.

4. Peec AI: The Lighter Tracker for Small Teams

Peec AI and Otterly cover the lighter end, and for most small stores that end is plenty. Peec AI tracks prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and AI Overviews with tiers from 50 to 350 prompts. Pricing is quote-based with a 15% annual discount, and agencies like its multi-project setup.

5. Otterly: The Cheapest Credible Entry

Otterly.AI is the cheapest credible entry I know: its Lite plan is $29 a month for 15 prompts across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Copilot, with a $189 Standard tier at 100 prompts. Fifteen prompts sounds thin until you realize most stores live or die on about that many buying questions.

Honest concession: this market is churning fast, and I would not sign an annual deal with any startup tracker right now. Tools this young get acquired, repriced, or sunset. Small brands can win visibility without any subscription, which is the whole argument of my post on how small brands get into AI answers.

What Should You Check by Hand Instead of Paying For?

Track your brand mentions by hand before paying anyone. Open ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google in a private window once a month and ask the ten questions that decide your revenue. Best X for Y. Is your brand legit. Your brand versus your rival. Log who gets named and cited in a spreadsheet.

That manual hour beats a dashboard for judgment calls, because you read the full answer, tone and all, not a mention count. Tools earn their fee when you need daily runs, hundreds of prompts, competitor share of voice, or client reporting. That is the honest dividing line.

Whatever you pay for, keep one manual session a month, because tools tell you the score while reading answers tells you why. And your referral traffic from AI engines is already sitting in Search Console and analytics for free, which I break down in my GSC AI performance report guide.

Want to Know Where Your Store Stands in AI Search?

The tool market splits clean: Semrush and Ahrefs bolt AI tracking onto suites you may already own, Profound serves the big spenders, and Peec and Otterly cover lean teams. Pick by the questions you need answered, not by feature counts.

Before you subscribe to anything, book a call and I’ll run my 10-prompt audit on your brand across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and AI Overviews during the call, so you leave knowing your baseline and whether a paid tracker is even worth it yet. If you want the ongoing work handled, that is what my AI search services are for.
