The 5 Best AI Visibility Tracking Tools

The best AI visibility tracking tool for most Shopify stores is Otterly.AI, since $29 a month covers the 15 buying questions that decide your sales. Semrush and Ahrefs fit stores already paying for those suites, and Profound fits enterprise budgets. For best results, run a hand check first so you know what to track.

1. Otterly.AI: The Cheapest Tool That Does the Job

Otterly.AI is the cheapest credible AI visibility tracking tool I know. Its Lite plan is $29 a month for 15 search prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot, and that drops to $25 a month on annual billing.

Fifteen prompts sounds thin until you list the questions that drive your revenue. Most stores live on about that many: best X for Y, your brand against your closest rival, and whether your brand is legit. If those 15 are covered, you have the picture that matters.

Setup is also the fastest of the five. You type in your prompts, pick your country, and the tool runs them on a schedule, with no SEO suite to learn first.

From there, the jump is steep. Standard is $189 a month for 100 prompts, and Premium is $489 for 400. Google AI Mode and Gemini are paid add-ons that start at $9 a month each on Lite, so add the engine your customers use and skip the rest.

The downside is depth. Otterly tells you where you show up and who gets cited next to you, and the fixing is still on you. Start on the cheapest plan that covers your buying questions, and upgrade only when you run out of prompts.

2. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: The Easy Add-On

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is the easy pick for a store that already works inside Semrush. It costs $99 a month per domain and tracks 25 custom prompts daily, with mentions pulled from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, and Perplexity.

What you get for that is a set of reports in a dashboard you already know: an AI visibility score, share of voice against competitors, sentiment, prompt research, and a site audit for AI search. For a team that reports out of Semrush each month, that convenience is the product.

But 25 prompts for $99 is the worst price per prompt on this list. Extra prompts are sold in blocks of 50 for $60 a month. If you need more, the Semrush One bundles fold the SEO suite and AI tracking together, with Starter at $199 a month for 50 prompts and Pro+ at $299 for 100.

Is the visibility score worth watching?

The visibility score is worth watching as a trend line, and it means little as a single number. Every tool on this list samples a small slice of real AI conversations, the same way rank trackers sample searches. Check whether the score rises over three months, and ignore week to week moves.

3. Ahrefs Brand Radar: The Widest View of Your Market

Ahrefs Brand Radar gives you the widest view of the AI market of any tool I’ve used. It runs on more than 448 million search-backed prompts and covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot.

Because that prompt base is so large, Brand Radar answers market questions the other tools cannot. You can see who owns your category across every engine, which competitor is climbing, and which topics leave you invisible. That is strategy data for a whole category, and it is the reason agencies and larger brands pay for it. A store that only wants to watch its own name is buying more than it needs.

The pricing comes in two parts, and both sit on top of a paid Ahrefs plan.

PartPriceWhat you get
Custom Prompts, Basic$50 a month2,500 prompt checks
Custom Prompts, Growth$100 a month7,000 prompt checks
One platform index$199 a monthThe full prompt database for one engine
All platform indexes$699 a monthEvery engine, plus 2,500 custom checks

Also, check what your Ahrefs plan already includes before you pay for anything. A Lite plan comes with 5 custom prompts checked daily on one platform, which is enough to watch your top handful of questions at no extra cost.

4. SE Ranking: Rank Tracking and AI Tracking on One Bill

SE Ranking is the best value for a store that needs keyword tracking and AI tracking together. Its Core plan is $129 a month and includes 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts tracked daily, across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.

That works out to about $1.29 per prompt with the rank tracker thrown in, against $3.96 per prompt on Semrush’s standalone toolkit. An AI Search add-on brings 200 more prompts for $89 a month if you outgrow the base plan.

“Why do tools show different results for the same prompts?”

That question comes up every time I show a client two dashboards side by side. Each tool writes its own prompts, runs them on its own schedule, and hits the engines from its own locations, so two trackers will never match. Pick one, and compare it only against itself over time.

5. Profound: The Enterprise Pick

Profound is the enterprise pick, and its public pricing now reflects that. The pricing page lists a 7-day trial that runs 50 prompts daily across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, and then a custom Enterprise plan that tracks up to nine answer engines.

What justifies a custom quote is workflow. You get daily runs, competitive share of voice, single sign-on, dedicated support, and agent features that turn gaps into content tasks. Agencies and funded brands in crowded categories get value from that.

Even so, most Shopify stores under a few million in revenue do not need it yet. Make sure you appear in AI answers at all before you pay to graph how often. If you are still at zero, spend the money on the fixes in my steps to rank on ChatGPT first.

A tracker measures the work, and it never does the work. That is true of all five tools, and it matters most at this price.

Two Runners-Up: Peec AI and Scrunch

Peec AI and Scrunch are the two runners-up, and both are built for teams and agencies. Peec sells three tiers at 50, 150, and 350 prompts with unlimited users, and you choose three AI models to track on each plan. Scrunch’s Core plan is $250 a month for 125 prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Copilot.

Neither made my top five for a store owner. Peec’s strength is running many client projects from one account, and Scrunch’s price buys site audits and team seats that a one-person store will not use.

One more caution on every startup in this market: I would not sign an annual deal with any of them right now. Tools this young get acquired, repriced, or shut down, and Profound’s public plans changed within the last year.

How Many Prompts Do You Need to Track?

You need to track 10 to 15 prompts if your store sells one category, and 30 to 50 if it sells several. A prompt here means one buying question, written the way a shopper would ask it, and the count grows with your categories, not with your product count.

Building that list takes about twenty minutes. Write three kinds of questions for each category you sell:

  • A best-of question, like “best heated jacket for women”
  • A comparison, like your brand against your closest rival
  • A trust question, like whether your brand is legit or worth the price

After that, stop adding. Tools charge by the prompt, and the long tail of questions you could track adds cost faster than it adds insight. On most stores, a dozen questions cover the searches closest to a sale.

Count your prompts before you compare prices, since the prompt count decides which plan you need. A store with 12 questions fits Otterly’s $29 plan, and a store with 80 is choosing between SE Ranking and Otterly’s $189 tier.

What Should a Tracker Measure?

A tracker should measure how often AI answers name your brand across many runs of the same prompts. That one number, usually called share of voice or visibility percentage, is the closest thing this market has to a ranking report.

Most dashboards show five metrics, and they are not equally useful.

MetricWhat it tells youWorth watching?
Mention rateHow often answers name your brandYes, it is the core number
Citation rateHow often answers link to your pagesYes, it shows which pages do the work
Share of voiceYour mentions against competitorsYes, for crowded categories
SentimentWhether the answer speaks well of youSometimes, and read the answers yourself
Position in the answerWhere your name falls in the listNo, it changes on every run

Just know that mentions and citations are different wins. An AI can recommend your brand without linking to you, and it can link to your page without naming you, so a tracker that reports only one of the two shows you half the picture.

Why Do AI Trackers Show Noisy Numbers?

AI trackers show noisy numbers since the AI tools themselves rarely give the same answer twice. SparkToro had 600 volunteers run 12 prompts 2,961 times and found the AIs gave the same list of brands less than 1 time in 100, and the same list in the same order less than 1 time in 1,000.

That finding kills one popular feature. Any tool that reports your “ranking position” in ChatGPT is reporting a number that changes on the next run. What holds up, per the same research, is your visibility percentage across dozens of prompts run many times.

So read these dashboards the way you would read a poll. One answer is a single voter, and the percentage across many runs is the result. I go deeper on how much the sources rotate in are AI citations stable.

For that reason, judge any tracker on three things before price. Ask how many times it runs each prompt, since more runs give a steadier number. Check that it reports your share of answers over time instead of a rank, and make sure you can write your own prompts in the words your shoppers use.

Start With the Free Stack From Google

The free stack from Google covers more than most store owners expect. Search Console now has generative AI performance reports that show your impressions inside AI Overviews and AI Mode by page, country, and date, and Google rolled them out to every site on August 31, 2026.

That report only covers Google’s own AI features, and it counts impressions. I walk through the setup and what to look for in my guide to the AI performance report in Search Console.

GA4 fills in the other half. It now has a default AI Assistant channel that groups visits from ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and similar tools, so you can see sessions and sales from AI referrals without building a custom filter. My guide to tracking AI traffic in GA4 covers the tools that channel misses.

Between those two reports, you know how often Google’s AI shows your pages and how many shoppers arrive from the chat tools. Neither one tells you what the AI said about you, and that gap is the only thing a paid tracker fills.

What Should You Check by Hand Before Paying?

Check your ten most valuable buying questions by hand before paying for any tool. Open ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google in a private window once a month, ask each question, and log who gets named and who gets cited in a spreadsheet. My guide to tracking brand mentions on ChatGPT has the full routine.

That manual hour beats a dashboard for judgment calls. You read the full answer, tone and all, instead of a mention count, and you see which competitor’s page the AI leaned on.

A paid tool earns its fee in four cases:

  1. You need daily runs to catch changes fast.
  2. You track more than 30 prompts.
  3. You report competitor share of voice to a boss or a client.
  4. You manage more than one brand.

Whichever of those applies, keep one manual session a month after you subscribe. The tool tells you the score, and reading the answers tells you why. Closing the gaps you find is the work I do for stores through my AI search services.
